BREAKING: Ex-Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont held by police in Germany

POLICE in Germany have detained former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont as he attempted cross the border from Denmark.

Puigdemont’s lawyer confirmed his client was being “held” for checks but a German police spokesperson has said he has been arrested as part of the European Arrest Warrant issued from Spain on Friday.

According to reports he was attempting to return to Belgium from Finland by car when it appeared Finnish authorities were going to arrest him. He had gone to Helsinki to attend a conference.

Carles Puigdemont could face 30 years in prison on sedition and rebellion charges.

His spokesperson Joan Maria Pique told Reuteurs news agency "the president was going to Belgium to put himself, as always, at the disposal of Belgian justice."

He should now face all charges levied against him and be made to pay for all the disruption he has caused to the whole of Spain. Jail him.
