A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy has been asphyxiated while playing with a curtain in an accident at his home in southern Spain.

Emergency services tried unsuccessfully for almost two hours to resuscitate the child.

The tragic accident happened at  Caravaca de la Cruz in Murcia when the boy was at home with his mother.

The child was playing with a curtain in the kitchen when the mother realised she couldn’t hear him anymore.

She found the boy motionless and with a curtain around his neck.

Neighbours, who heard her calls for help, alerted the emergency services.

Psychologists from the Red Cross supported the relatives of the deceased child.
